My Story
I've been making art ever since my first box of crayons. However, before devoting myself to it full-time, I had a previous career as a programmer making educational games. During the first years of the pandemic, I came to a halt grieving the loss of a loved one and processing complex trauma, and had to stop working as a game developer. The only thing I could find energy and focus to do during that difficult time was to make art. I found grounding and new inspiration through reconnecting with expressive art, and I began experimenting with paint pouring. The abstract movement of the paint suited my hallucinatory art style and I began to paint imagery onto the pours, exploring the imaginary territory they represented. These explorations were an important step along my healing journey.
Now, in addition to painting on canvas, I make art in the streets and with the community, painting murals, teaching at a local art college, and facilitating art workshops for youth and adults. My style is colourful, dreamlike, and rooted in the natural environment. I am inspired and challenged by avant-garde art and liberation movements. My practice explores the potential for creative play to bring us together and assist us in imagining new possibilities for ourselves, our communities, our society, and our relationship with the land.
I never went back to my old job but I haven't left coding behind. I'm excited about the potential of interactive media to create engaging immersive art experiences. I created a popular Twitter bot that generated 3D forest walkthroughs; I have created interactive projection installations for Nuit Blanche, and I perform in live coding shows and create audio-reactive visuals for musical performances.
As an emerging artist under late capitalism, I need all the support I can get. Any purchases you make from this shop help me to keep making art and to share my skills with others.
